A lawyer has been arrested on charges of receiving money from a citizen in order to influence an official’s decision.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Prosecutor’s Office of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on the basis of the collected materials on illegal actions of Babek Rzayev, a lawyer from the law firm “Kamandar Nasibov and Partners” located in Baku.
Informing citizens that lawyer Babek Rzayev has the opportunity to influence the decision of the competent official using his real or alleged influence in the criminal case pending in the relevant court of the autonomous republic, in June 2024 he requested different amounts of non-contractual funds have been obtained.
According to the evidence gathered in the case, Babek Rzayev was brought as an accused under Article 312-1.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (unlawful influence on the decision of an official – influence peddling) by the decision of the court. Based on the petition of the investigator and the submission of the prosecutor who conducted the procedural management of the preliminary investigation, a decision was made to remand him in custody.
The Bar Association will also investigate the lawyer in accordance with the law and evaluate his conduct.
Investigative measures are currently continuing in order to identify important circumstances of the criminal case and other persons involved in the commission of the crime.
