The Appeals Chamber of the National Court reduced from 18 years in prison to 11 years and nine months the conviction of Burgos retiree Pompeyo González, who sent six explosive letters to different entities and political figures.
Concretely, the letters were addressed to the Moncloa Palace, the Ministry of Defense, an arms company in Zaragoza and the embassies of the United States and Ukraine. A security guard from the latter was injured while handling one of the envelopes.
In a judgment to which EL ESPAÑOL had access, the court states that “the fact must be objectively considered less serious” and the condemned He is an “isolated terrorist”, who “will hardly be able to generate followers or spread among sectors of the population”..
Pompeyo González, as the resolution states, “has no ties or relationships with any criminal group or organization” and “does not attempt to collaborate with other people.” For this reason, the Appeals Chamber applies the reduction of only one degree, which means a reduction of his sentence by more than six years.
The court ruled out applying a reduction of two degrees, since the total number of letters sent by the pensioner was six. In other words, “he insisted on his criminal behavior, which required long preparation.”
“The reduction of two degrees would only have been appropriate in the case of a smaller number of objects, which would have shown even less danger,” specifies the Chamber.
Finally, for the offense of terrorism resulting in injury, Pompeyo will serve a five-year prison sentence. For the manufacture of explosive devices, six years and nine
months in prison. In total, 11 years and nine months.
Likewise, he will be prohibited from exercising professions related to education, sport and leisure during said period and the following four years, during which he will have exercised supervised release. And you must pay the costs of the proceedings against you.
