Will Putin be arrested in Brazil, where he was invited to a G2 meeting?

The question of whether Brazil will arrest Vladimir Putin, who plans to attend the G20 summit, remains open.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky expressed his opinion on the matter in an interview with the Brazilian newspaper Metropoles.

Zelensky noted that Brazil is a party to the Rome Statute and will host the G20 summit this year. He believes that if Putin can attend the meeting and not be arrested, then this will be a serious problem.

The Ukrainian president also wondered how the world’s leading states would react when they discuss important issues with a person against whom the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant.

“I am concerned about how G20 countries, especially those that advocate the defence of democracy and respect for international law, will discuss issues with a person against whom an arrest warrant has been issued, especially in connection with crimes against children,” Zelensky said perplexed.

By the way, in March 2023 the ICC issued an arrest warrant against Putin on charges of illegal deportation of Ukrainian children and transfer of Ukrainians to Russia. However, on September 3 the Russian dictator visited Mongolia without hindrance. It was his first visit to a country that had ratified the Rome Statute and was due to arrest him on an ICC warrant for war crimes. However, Mongolia said that Putin’s arrest was impossible due to the country’s energy dependence on Russia.

Recall that Cursor wrote that the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced the return to their homeland of 45 citizens of the country who had fraudulently enlisted in the Russian army, participated in the war against Ukraine, but were dismissed at the request of the Indian side.
