Rafa Nadal will not play the Laver Cup. Everything suggested that the Spanish tennis player would reappear in the tournament organized by Roger Federer, but this will not be the case. Team Europe led by Bjorn Borg will not be able to count on one of its biggest stars for the 2024 edition, which begins next week (September 20-22) at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin.
The official Laver Cup account published a statement from Rafa Nadal in which the player revealed the sad news: “I am really disappointed to tell you that I will not be able to participate in the Laver Cup in Berlin next week,” said the winner. “Starting twice in this team competition (2017 and 2019) with Team Europe.
“It’s a team competition and to really support Team Europe I have to do my best for them and right now there are other players who can help the team achieve victory,” added the 22-time Grand Slam winner, who regrets not being able to participate this year: “I have so many wonderful and emotional memories from my participation in the Laver Cup and I was really looking forward to being with my teammates and Bjorn in his last year as captain,” he said.

In the end, Rafa Nadal wishes Team Europe the best for the Laver Cup: I wish the European team good luck and I will cheer them on from afar. The Europeans want to avenge the blows they suffered last year in Canada, where they lost 2-13 to the Rest of the World, but they will have to do it without the best Spanish tennis player of all time. In the meantime, the man from Manacor will continue training to return to the courts. At the moment, Nadal still has no return date.
