The terminals in the historic center of Santiago will begin operating on September 19

The advisor explained that the commissioning of the terminals It does not modify the traffic circuits already in force in the historic districtso that the entry and exit points of the vehicles that the neighbors used are maintained. There will also be no changes regarding the different types of cards or the established access times.

Xan Duro recalled that before the terminals were put into service, the Traffic Department opened the process of renewing access cards, “An update that has not been done in the last 20 years, so the databases also included cards of people who do not reside in the area or vehicles that are not in circulation.“. A circumstance which, as the advisor pointed out, “made difficult or controlled two accesses“.

Currently, a total of 1,371 access cardsof which 653 are for residents; 367 are for commercial and professional use; 185 are transits and stopovers and 157 are linked to the Plaza de Abastos, so they have authorized access through the Plaza de San Fiz. In addition, nine cards are granted for family reasons.

Various delays

The head of Mobility explained that the implementation of the system suffered several delays due to the need to reconfigure the database system of the registration plates of the vehicles authorized to access, so as to ensure the automatic updating of any changes.

The new system also integrates the San Pedro Street license plate reader. In addition, system databases such as images from access control cameras and the telephone system have been moved from external servers to municipal servers.
