The public services of the Madrid City Council are looking for new workers. The Public Employment Offer 2024 (OEP) was approved this Thursday in the Government Council. The number of positions amounts to 1,135 and this year, vacancies for new personnel have increased; from 547 in 2023, to 772 external incorporations for this year. The positions will be focused on health and social services, following a logic similar to the regional government’s proposal approved in mid-June.

The models are renewed with a balanced distribution but oriented towards the current needs of the Administration and the city. 260 places are intended for the citizen service to occupy the new offices for processing financial benefits.

A total of 200 people will be assigned to social services, including assistants, social workers, educators and occupational therapists. Another 110 in the health sector, where general practitioners, nurses, assistants, laboratory technicians and, with particular urgency, gynecologists and specialists in preventive medicine are required.

There will also be 110 positions related to sports, a job niche where senior technicians in physical activity sciences and rescue and surveillance monitors are sought. On the other hand, architecture and engineering will be strengthened, with 68 workers, in addition to 68 others for mobility and the environment.

To a lesser extent, this is true, but culture will also be boosted with 29 jobs on offer. In any case, all administrations will benefit from an additional boost with 179 cross-functional management positions that will streamline the bureaucratic work that any public policy requires.

As detailed by the vice mayor and municipal spokesperson, Inma Sanz, the priority objectives of the current administration are the creation of stable jobs, the attraction of external talent and the provision of quotas for people with intellectual functional diversity. Regarding the type of employment offered, of the 1,135 positions, 772 correspond to free shifts.

A new feature to highlight is that newly created categories have been integrated; updated jobs that arise from the reassessment of administrative needs. The category simplification agreement signed at the end of February allowed the creation of positions called senior technician in the social sector, technician in the prevention of occupational risks, technician in public works and roads, and the figure of general health psychologist.

In addition to the positions now presented, the city council is planning a new OEP specifically for security and emergencies. This means that the Municipal Police, the Fire Brigade and the SAMUR-Civil Protection will also have an additional boost in the coming weeks.

It should be noted that the current and future offers respond to compliance with the “Plan 10,000”, which aims to increase the staff of the essential services of the Madrid City Council with the aim of gradually reaching 10,000 civil servants by 2027. At the same time, this initiative arises from a broader project: the Municipal Government Operational Plan 2024-2027; more specifically, it is Measure 20.
