Georgian Parliament Speaker: “The introduction of sanctions against Russia means our economic collapse”

“The introduction of sanctions against Russia means the economic collapse of Georgia and a military conflict with Russia.”

Oku.Az TASS reports that the speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, spoke to reporters about this.

The speaker of the parliament cited as an example the Danish government’s funding of Georgian opposition political parties. The Georgian authorities considered this to be interference in the pre-election period and subsequently suspended funding. In addition, the republican authorities have been accusing non-governmental organisations of preparing pre-election videos for several days, without indicating the source of funding.

“We have intelligence and our own head to draw conclusions. We say where we draw conclusions. We said about Danish funding, we saw that it was stopped. Now we are talking about the video funding campaign. Its authors hide their sources of funding,” Papuashvili said.

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (FSI) announced on September 11 that the United States has agreed to cooperate with the leadership of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to interfere in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia. According to the CCP’s information, the OSCE ODIHR is expected to publish an interim report 10-20 days before the vote with the conclusion that there are no conditions for holding free and fair elections in the country. After the first results of the vote are announced, the opinion will be put forward that the electoral process does not comply with the norms of democracy.

It should be noted that parliamentary elections in Georgia will be held on October 26.
