Ukraine fails to guarantee safety of Israeli pilgrims – EADaily, September 12, 2024 – Politics News, Ukraine News

Ukraine does not guarantee the safety of Hasidic pilgrims planning to visit the city of Uman during the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah), the publication “Details” reported.

The warning was published today by the Ukrainian Embassy in Israel in three languages: Ukrainian, English and Hebrew.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on Hasidic pilgrims to refrain from the current pilgrimage to Uman as part of the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. If you decide to visit Uman contrary to previous reservations, you should be aware that a legal regime of martial law exists in Ukraine, which provides for a number of additional regulations, including restrictions on freedom of movement, the introduction of a curfew, the implementation of reinforced patrols, a ban on holding public events and gatherings, as well as the use of coercive measures against persons who do not comply with the established restrictions.” – the statement says.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also refers to “other circumstances” that could complicate the stay of pilgrims in Ukraine. These include the lack of a sufficient number of air raid shelters in Uman for pilgrims, congestion of land transport links with Ukraine and possible significant delays in the movement of railway transport due to massive shelling, lack of medical personnel and medical facilities in Uman, the possibility of introducing additional regulation of entry (online registration) and stay of Hasidic pilgrims in Ukraine.

The publication recalls that after several months of negotiations, the Moldovan authorities did not allow Israeli pilgrims to travel to Ukraine through the territory of the country. This year Rosh Hashanah falls on October 2-4 and the Ihud Breslav organization is looking for opportunities to organize trips to Ukraine through airports in Romania and Poland.
