The Consell de Mallorca presents its prizes and distinctions on the occasion of the Diada

The president of the island, Llorenç Galmés, during his speech, stressed that the winning individuals and entities “have left a mark, a legacy and that, in some cases, has crossed borders, proudly carrying the name of Mallorca throughout the world.”

In this sense, he addressed the winners as “the anonymous heroes who make Mallorca a unique and entrepreneurial land, looking to the future and, at the same time, defending culture and traditions in an increasingly globalized world.”

“We must continue to move forward so that the Consell de Mallorca is the true institution of self-government of the island, with more powers and better equipped,” said Galmés, appealing for consensus to “achieve state pacts on capital issues that affect Mallorca and thus, they last throughout the legislatures.

Among these issues, Galmés mentioned the transformation of the tourism model “to guarantee coexistence between residents and tourists” and the need to “take courageous measures” to achieve more sustainable, fluid and safe mobility. In addition, he requested an urgent response from institutions to care “with dignity” for unaccompanied migrant minors.

The event also took place in the presence of the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, and the President of the Parliament, Gabriel Le Senne.
