The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Azerbaijan, is the center of attention of the world press, including Saudi Arabian media organizations.
AZERTAC reports that the Kingdom’s newspaper “Ash-Sharq Al-Awsat”, published in London, published an article titled “COP29 President-designate: We aim for fair climate ambitions and sustainable financing… and appreciate Saudi Arabia’s efforts “. The article emphasized that COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev noted that the conference has a clear vision to raise ambitions, achieve the 1.5 degree goal and create an opportunity to act against climate change. The Azerbaijani official was reported to have highly appreciated Saudi Arabia’s efforts to resolve critical climate issues.
It was noted that Azerbaijan is hosting the COP29 conference, which will run until November 22, and the top priority here will be agreeing on a new target for climate finance.
The influential Saudi newspaper “Riyadh” presented to its readers the statements of German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock. In the newspaper article titled “World leaders meet at COP29 conference”, it is noted that the annual UN climate conference should conclude with the allocation of new financial aid to developing countries to reduce gas emissions greenhouse effect and adapt to climate change. It was noted that the new goal will replace the goal of one hundred billion dollars set in 2009 and barely achieved in 2022.
The article states that decisions made in Baku can have a significant impact on the fight against climate change and meeting the 1.5°C limit. It was noted that German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock warned of the serious dangers posed by global warming.
