The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, asked the EU to decide whether the union will support Ukraine after the victory of Republican Donald Trump in the US presidential elections. This was stated by Borrell in a press conference after a meeting with the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radoslaw Sikorski, in Warsaw.
“I don’t know what Trump is going to do. Nobody knows. Whatever the scenario, we must have an answer. “We cannot continue to say: ‘We will support Ukraine’ without accepting that this will be done in any scenario.” – said.
Borrell added that “we (the EU) must consider a scenario in which our support must increase.”
On Saturday, November 9, Borrell arrived in kyiv to discuss increased support for Ukraine amid Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.
At a press conference in the Ukrainian capital, the head of European diplomacy also stated that the EU is preparing the fifteenth package of sanctions against Russia.
“We need to tighten measures to circumvent them (sanctions), because Russian production is impossible without foreign components, chips and other components,” – said.
Borrell’s powers expire on December 1 and the former Estonian prime minister will become the new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Callas.
