The Israeli army has recorded around 20 rocket launches from Lebanese territory.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recorded around 20 rocket launches from Lebanese territory towards northern Israel, most of which were shot down by air defense systems, the army’s press service reported.

“Amid the sound of sirens in the Safed area (a city in northern Israel), some 20 projectiles were recorded being fired from Lebanon towards Israeli territory. Most were intercepted, the rest fell in the open air.” – the IDF said in a statement.

The army statement added that falling shrapnel caused a fire in the area of the village of Biriya in northern Israel. Firefighters and local firefighters are working to extinguish the blaze, according to the army.

According to the statement, there were no reports of casualties.

It is also reported that in connection with the probable fall of fragments in the context of the interception of projectiles, sirens were activated in the vicinity of the city of Safed.

The situation on the border between Israel and Lebanon has worsened since the start of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. The Israeli army and Hezbollah are firing daily at each other’s positions in areas along the border. According to the Lebanese Foreign Ministry, some 100,000 people have been forced to leave their homes in southern Lebanon due to Israeli shelling. The Israeli side reported that some 80,000 residents of northern Israel were in a similar situation.
