According to reports, a farmer named Erkan Ceylan saw a huge hole when he went to the field. Authorities from the Regional Department of Agriculture and Forestry were informed about the pit, which is estimated to be more than 20 meters deep and 5 meters in diameter. Investigations have been started in the field and surrounding areas. The presence of running water in the hole was noted.
“My field is 23 hectares. I saw the hole and was scared. We informed the officials, they came and looked. The sunflower harvesting season has arrived. If we hadn’t seen the hole, even the combine harvester could have uprooted it. “This is the first time a hole has formed in our neighborhood. After mowing the surroundings, I plan to fill the hole with soil,” said farmer Erkan Ceylan.
Eskişehir Agriculture and Forestry Department Head Ender Muhammed Gümüş said this is the third known hole in the region.
He recalled the statement made by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey, İbrahim Yumaklı, regarding the planned support for production, and noted that the planting of water-intensive crops will be controlled.
“In regions where problems will arise if groundwater is used excessively, water will be restricted and planned production will be supported. We will use water sparingly, so that we do not see any more holes,” added Ender Muhammed Gümüş.
