He Gayarre Theater in Pamplona is preparing to host one of the most anticipated theatrical shows of the season, with almost all tickets already sold out.

The work, entitled “The sea. Vision of children who have never seen it”, tells the moving story of Antoni Bénaigesa young Catalan teacher who, in 1936, promised his students at the rural school of Bañuelos de Bureba, in the province of Burgos, that one day he would take them to see the sea.

However, this promise was tragically cut short when Benaiges He was shot on July 25, 1936.in the middle of the Spanish Civil War, preventing these children from seeing the sea for the first time.

The story begins in 1934, when Antoni Bénaiges He arrives in the small town of Bañuelos de Bureba and becomes the teacher of a group of boys and girls who had never had the opportunity to dream beyond the mountains that surrounded their home.

With a great vocation and great commitment, Benaiges buys a gramophone and a rudimentary printing press so your students can put their thoughts and feelings on paper. Thus, in January 1936, the students published a small book entitled “The sea. Vision of children who have never seen it”, in which they express how they imagine the sea, their fears and their dreams, all in the form verses and stories for children. prose. None of them had ever seen the ocean, but their teacher had promised them that that summer he would take them to Catalonia to see it.

The work, created by Xavier Bobés and Alberto Conejerouses a stage device where objects, poetry and documentary material coexist in a delicate balance, allowing the spectator to immerse themselves in the unfinished promise of Benaiges. Bobés and Conejero, authors and directors of the play, managed to capture the essence of this tragic episode and transform it into a story that pays tribute to memory and the power of education.

The show, which arrives at Gayarre in collaboration with the Navarro Institute of Memoryis a clear example of committed theater that seeks to rescue forgotten episodes of recent Spanish history.

The work received a great reception, not only in Pamplona, where tickets are practically sold out, but also throughout the country. “The sea. Vision of children who have never seen it” is a candidate for nominations at the XXVI Max Awards, standing out in the categories of best theatrical show, best direction (for Conejero and Bobés) and best actor (Bobés).

The work can be seen this November 14 with a duration of 65 minutes and prices between €7.50 and €15.00. There are still tickets available, but very few are available in areas such as seats and stands.
