A. Hidalgo believes that crossovers and SUVs pollute the environment and pose a greater danger than compact cars on urban roads. A bill to give town councils the power to ban the use of some private vehicles could soon be introduced in the French Senate.
If the bill goes into effect, the restriction will apply only to luxury and premium vehicles like the Range Rover, not all crossovers and SUVs. This includes petrol and diesel crossovers and SUVs weighing more than 1.7 tonnes, as well as electric SUVs weighing more than two tonnes.
According to statistics cited by the publication, crossovers and SUVs, which could be banned, represent around 25% of Parisian parking.
