A citizen of Kazakhstan will be in a Kazakh prison after serving a sentence in a Russian one

A citizen of Kazakhstan, suspected of inciting religious hatred, has been extradited from Russia, where he served a sentence for robbery, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to Kazakh law enforcement officials, in 2016-2017, as part of a group of like-minded people in Almaty, he committed illegal actions consisting of insulting the religious feelings of citizens and promoting their inequality based on their attitude to religion.

The accused’s accomplices were arrested and convicted. He himself hid from the investigation in Moscow, where in 2017 he committed a robbery, for which a Russian court held him criminally responsible.

The man was handed over after serving his sentence in Russia. In Kazakhstan he faces a further sentence of five to ten years.

The extradited person is currently being held in a pre-trial detention centre in Almaty.
