Kazakhstan allocated more than 1.2 million dollars for flood prevention

The Government of Kazakhstan has allocated 576 million tenge (more than 1.2 million dollars) for research into flood prediction, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.

The corresponding resolution was signed by the Prime Minister. Olzhas Bektenov.

The allocated funds are intended for the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. The majority of the funding will be used for the purchase of equipment and technical supplies, as well as research services.

“In particular, it is planned to send the funds directly to the Submetrology section of the RSE at the Kazvodjoz depot for conducting bathymetric studies of flood-prone areas in the northern, western and central regions of the country.” – says the press service.

The work will continue in 2025, including bathymetric studies of reservoirs of republican importance. The data received will be transferred to the Ministry of Digital Development and JSC NC Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary (Kazakhstan Space Path) for inclusion in the information system for forecasting and modeling floods.

In 2024, the damage caused by floods in Kazakhstan amounted to more than 53 billion tenge (over 10.5 billion rubles).
