Kazakhstan’s civil aviation is introducing biometrics. Deputy Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov spoke about this within the framework of the “Digital Transport Day” forum, Sputnik reports.
“In the field of civil aviation, biometrics are planned to be introduced. We have already purchased the equipment, it is already being put into operation, then we will integrate it with the E-Gov program of the Ministry of Digitalization and with the help of biometrics (fingerprints, retina) we will pass through the inspection zone. “We were planning to implement this by the end of 2024, but due to delays in equipment deliveries, we will postpone it until the first half of 2025.” – said the official.
Biometrics, he said, will become an alternative to presenting an identity document before screening a passenger.
“You register online and then choose the verification method: by document or by biometric data. Get closer to the equipment: scan the retina or apply your finger. The team reads, confirms your identity and you pass.” – explained the vice minister.
He added that only the E-Gov system will have access to passengers’ personal data; When launched, citizens will initially consent to data processing.
