Turkish investor to build cement plant with capacity of 1.5 million tons per year in Afghanistan

Ministry of Mining and Petroleum of the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” (the proper name of the country among the Taliban*) signed an agreement with the Turkish “77 Company” for the construction of a large cement plant in the Yatim Tak region of Jawzjan province. The Afghan media is reporting today that this is a big deal.

Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum Hedayatullah Badri announced that the Turkish company would invest $163 million in the project. The new plant will produce approximately 3,000 tons of cement per day, directly creating more than 1,200 jobs and contributing to the economic growth of the region.

According to Badri, the contract is for 30 years. Turkish Ambassador in Kabul Cenk Unal He said at the ceremony that the signing of this contract is important for Afghans.

“I am glad that Turkish investors are investing in Afghanistan and showing interest in this area. We will follow this project closely, as it is vital for the Afghan people. “The signing of this project will encourage other Turkish investors to also invest in Afghanistan.” – Unal said.

President of company 77 Suleiman Jiliv saying:

“We will produce around 1.5 million tons of cement per year. In the first year we will complete the evaluation of the plant’s capabilities and in the second year we will begin clean production of cement for the Afghans.”

As TOLOnews notes, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum previously signed contracts worth about $476 million with several national and international companies for similar projects in Jabal Saraj, Kandahar and Herat. The goal is to make the country self-sufficient in the production of this important construction component.
