Moscow and Pyongyang signed the protection agreement in June 2024, after North Korea mobilized the troops to help drive the mass attacks of Ukraine in the Russian Kursk region.
At a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Korea, Cho Song Hui in Vonsan, Lavrov praised the “unsurpassed fraternity” between the two countries.
“This assessment turned out to be true in the Kursk region, where the heroic soldiers of the Korean People’s Army, along with the Russian troops, promoting the liberation of the region from Nazi Ukraine, sacrificed blood and even their own life,” he said.
In August 2024, Ukrainian troops crossed the Russian border, which was recognized at the international level and captured the city of Sudzha, as well as dozens of border villages.
