“I never complain about my health. Thank you, I’m fine. Because I’m old. I am as I should be at this age. I wish you would come and catch me. I always write. Day and night It doesn’t matter. What I write are newspapers “Literature”, “Azerbaijan”, “525”.
This was stated by the popular poet Nariman Hasanzade in his statement to Moderator.az. He added later:
“I am 93 years old. But I do not consider age as old age. Old age can occur at any age. Both in youth and in old age. If there is an inner gap, it is old age itself. I accept it. That is how the nation lives while generations replace each other. The greatest wish is for the happiness of Azerbaijan, for my people to live happily. May our independence continue like this. My wishes are for the happiness of our country, for tomorrow, for happy days,” he said.
The popular poet said he does not receive royalties for his writings:
“There are no royalties. There used to be. Azerbaijan newspaper has royalties. When you write an article, they send it out. But there are no royalties in other newspapers. I am not at all upset that I do not receive royalties for my work. I am happy when my work is published. The publication of a poet’s poem and a writer’s work is more important than copyright.”
The popular poet said that he still misses his friends today.
“Of course, I have relatives and friends whom I miss. May God have mercy on each one of them. Most of them are my pen pals. They are considered to be of our generation. We must live with today, not with yesterday. It is not worth living with yesterday. They are never forgotten. For me, they are a sacred memory. When the time comes, we must remember them, we must talk about them.”
Nariman Hasanzade also spoke about young people criticising older poets and writers:
“In any case, we need to learn from the classics. Those artists are alive. We need to learn their way and keep them alive. But we don’t know if those young people will live tomorrow or not? We can’t blame them. They have always been and will be. They were recognized and then they disappeared. Who needs it? But if geniuses like Pushkin, Nizami and Sabir live, can we deny that school?”
The popular poet spoke of the peculiarity of the feminine theme in his works:
“My mother was the daughter of a khan. My mother’s brothers and uncles were shot in 1923. One brother stayed behind and looked after my mother. That’s life. Both my mother and my wife were beautiful women. I’ve heard that sometimes there are people who insult, beat and pressure their wives. This is not enough for me. Does a person overcome his destiny? I don’t accept it!
