Begoña Gómez does not testify in the Assembly, but she discredits the “obvious political objective” of the commission and the complaints against it

Begoña Gomezwife of Pedro Sánchez, decided not to testify before the commission of inquiry of the Madrid Assembly which deals with her relations with the Complutense University (UCM), in which she co-directed two chairs.

However, at the start of his appearance, Gómez criticized “obvious political objective” of the said commission and the “collection of complaints” against it, which gave rise to criminal legal proceedings in which it is the subject of an investigation.

This Tuesday, around ten o’clock in the morning, the businesswoman went to the Regional Assembly to be questioned by deputies from the PP, PSOE, Vox and Más Madrid groups.

The representative of the Popular Party, Mercedes Zarzalejos, the first to intervene, asked Gómez “how she managed to co-direct a chair” at the Complutense “of which she could not even have been a student”, given her academic training . In fact, Sánchez’s wife is neither a graduate nor a graduate.

“What was your gateway to slipping into the world of college like that“?” asked Zarzalejos, who recalled that Gómez summoned the university rector in 2020, Joaquin Goyachein Moncloa to propose the creation of one of these chairs.

The PP deputy also criticized him, “apparently”, for having “appropriated” a software of the UCM, one of the events investigated by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado. “Did he take ownership of it?” asked the MP. Gómez once again refused to testify.

“Obvious political objective”

At the start of her appearance, Begoña Gómez asked the president of the commission, Susana Pérez, to give her “a minute” to explain her professional background.

“For 25 years, I have worked in consulting and teaching. I have advised more than fifty professionals from the private sector and the third sector. 12 years ago, I started a collaboration with the University Complutense (…) to train professionals in social projects and sustainable development In 2020, this collaboration is expanding with the creation of an Extraordinary Chair, common practice within public universities and which is not remunerated. . I am fully aware that this commission and the collection of legal complaints and the number of hoaxes meet an obvious political objective…“Gómez said.

Just then, she was interrupted by Brambleclaw. After a tense scuffle, the chair of the commission allowed the person appearing to finish his statement. He concluded by saying: “The truth will put things back in their place”.
