Begoña Gómez speaks in the Assembly to denounce the “political objective” of the commission and refuses to respond to the PP

Begoña Gómez arrived on time at the Madrid Assembly, where she was summoned at 10 a.m. to appear before the commission of inquiry into the alleged preferential treatment allegedly granted to her by the Complutense University of Madrid. Pedro Sánchez’s wife entered through the garage and went up to the committee room, where the session began angrily, because the PSOE wanted the written press to leave the room. Gómez took the floor for a minute to denounce the “political objective” of this commission of inquiry, the “collection of complaints” that were filed against it and the “hoaxes” that were circulated. He thus warned that “sooner or later, the truth will clarify things” and announced that he would not make any further declaration within the commission.

The wife of the President of the Government remained silent in the face of all the questions asked to her by the spokesperson of the PP, Mercedes Zarzalejo. He simply stared at this spokesperson, without saying a word.

In her first speech, Begoña Gómez recalled that she has worked in consulting and teaching for 25 years: “I have coordinated teams, I have managed projects, I have advised more than fifty professionals”. He assured that he has been collaborating with the Complutense University for 20 years and it is in 2020 that this collaboration at the Complutense University will expand with an extraordinary chair, “which is a common practice in public universities, and not paid.”

Begoña Gómez assured that she was “fully aware” of the “political objective” of the commission of inquiry and immediately refused to answer any of the questions asked by the PP spokesperson.

Within the commission, the PP used its 20 minutes to ask Begoña Gómez various questions about her position as professor at Complutense, but without obtaining an answer. PSOE spokesperson Marta Bernardo asked for “respect” for the person appearing and the president of the commission called her to order for interrupting the popular deputy who was speaking.

The PP spokesperson asked Begoña Gómez what she thought she could say to young people who are trying to forge a professional future through their efforts. “He didn’t say a single word, and that can only be justified by evidence,” he said. And at that time the PSOE protested again because the PP had exceeded its time. The president removed the microphone.

Zarzalejo concluded and regretted the lack of respect and parliamentary decorum of the PSOE deputies. According to him, it is “scandalous that he did not give an answer or an explanation to the academic professionals who spend years preparing, researching, who have put many years of effort into running a master’s degree. All these professionals deserved an explanation. today they do “The only thing he gave them with his silence was his contempt.”
