Gazprom is looking for the future of Russian gas supplies to China

The Russian company Gazprom said that its president and head of the Chinese National Oil Corporation were discussed by future Russian gas supplies to China during negotiations in Beijing, while Moscow seeks to strengthen relations with the largest consumer of energy in the world.

Russia, which has the largest gas reserves in the world, transformed its oil supplies from Europe to India and China since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022.

Meanwhile, Russia continues to slowly distract natural gas pipelines from the European Union.

Moscow began export gas to China through the power of the Siberia pipeline at the end of 2019 and plans to reach the pipeline to an annual export capacity of 38 billion cubic meters this year.

Russia and China also agreed to export 10 billion cubic meters of gas from the Russian island of Sakhlin in the Pacific Ocean since 2027.

Nevertheless, the years of negotiations have not yet been completed in the area of the Siber 2 pipeline, which will annually transfer 50 billion cubic meters of gas to China through Mongolia, since both sides differ in issues such as the price of gas.

Russian President Vladimir Putin must go to China in early September in order to take part in the celebration, noting the anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II. This visit came after visiting his Chinese colleague Xi Jinping to Moscow in May.
