Five Affordable Destinations with Great Weather for a Getaway

October is a great month to travel and explore the country thanks to the fact that many destinations offer very affordable prices. Good weather also accompanies most of the Peninsula, so you can go to a multitude of places without having to take out your umbrella.

We offer five options:

Merida (Extremadura)

Culture, gastronomy and heritage. The capital of Extremadura offers these three things and much more at a price that will make you want to stay.

Among its monuments is the Roman Theatre, between 16 and 15 BC. A prestigious city could not fail to have a building for stage games and Augusta Emerita was particularly generous in terms of capacity: about six thousand spectators. The visit can be done on foot and has an entrance fee of 13 euros.

What you can see for free is the Los Milagros Aqueduct. This colossal aqueduct is part of a hydraulic pipeline that brought water from the Proserpina or Charca de la Albuera reservoir. It is popularly known as “Los Milagros” due to the admiration that its state of conservation has aroused among locals and foreigners despite the vicissitudes of time. And it is not surprising, since more than eight hundred meters of this aqueduct are preserved, some of which granite and brick piles rise twenty-seven meters from the ground.

Scarilla (Aragon)

In the heart of the Tena Valley, Escarilla is one of the most beautiful villages in the Aragonese Pyrenees. It is undoubtedly the ideal place for lovers of outdoor sports, such as hiking or mountaineering. And especially for skiers, since the resorts of Formigal and Panticosa are very close.

Surrounded by an incomparable landscape, with the Lanuza dam to the north and the Búbal dam to the south, it offers an ideal rural environment to spend your holidays. You will find Jaca just 40 km away, but you don’t have to go far to find monuments to visit.

The fountains of Escarrilla, its old bridge and its parish church are just some of the must-see places in one of the cheap places to go on holiday in Spain: Escarilla.

Granada (Andalusia)

Without a doubt, Granada is as famous as it is affordable. You can stay in the old town at a good price in a neighborhood full of history. If you can, it is best to visit Granada in three days, as it is full of monuments.

Granada is much more than the Alhambra. We recommend admiring the sunset from the viewpoints of the Albaicín. They all offer spectacular views, San Nicolas being the best known. But if you explore, you can find some with the added value of being quite solitary.

This is not all that this neighborhood offers. It is not surprising that UNESCO declared the Albaicín a World Heritage Site in 1994, since its narrow streets and typical houses have an unprecedented beauty and charm and have preserved for more than a thousand years their popular, intimate and welcoming character. The best way to know it is to start the visit at the Interpretation Center of the Casa de Zafra, and then walk around and get lost in its corners.

In the Albaicín (also written Albayzin or Albaycín) you will breathe the essence of a neighborhood that evokes both Arab architecture and that of other ancient Mediterranean cities. Much of its charm lies in the many cármenes that populate the neighborhood (typical houses with orchards and gardens), as well as in the slopes that lead to its impressive viewpoints, among which the one of San Nicolás stands out.

Lanzarote (Canary Islands)

Lanzarote is one of the most visited Canary Islands and one of the cheapest places in Spain to travel during the change of seasons. Here you will find a temperate climate regardless of the time of year, where the average temperature is around 20 degrees and it hardly rains.

Although there are many beautiful beaches to visit in Lanzarote, the beauty of its volcanic landscapes captivates, whose protagonist is the Timanfaya National Park. In this protected space you can take a bus line through the oldest volcanoes on the island or go hiking in Lanzarote and immerse yourself fully in nature. There are also other sites of volcanic nature that are worth a visit, as they have been artistically intervened by César Manrique, one of the most recognized Canarian artists. The Jameos del Agua or the Cueva de los Verdes are the most popular attractions in Lanzarote and you should include them in your itinerary no matter what.

Santander (Cantabria)

Cantabria is one of the cheap destinations in northern Spain that we recommend you check out. This small region is known for its steep cliffs, but it is home to other charming corners, such as rocky caves, medieval villages and large mountains.

Santander is the Cantabrian capital where you will find different monuments of great architectural value, such as the Magdalena Palace, and lively neighborhoods where you can go out at night or taste the local cuisine, such as the Cañadío, Porticada or Pombo squares. I recommend you sign up for a free tour to optimize your time and know the main points of interest.
