Spectacular waterspout surprises Marbella as new DANA hits Malaga

The DANA which touches the province of Malaga this Wednesday, November 13 leaves heavy rains and storms in different placesbut also phenomena as striking as a sea sleeve, as the tornado that occurs in the sea is called.

It is a reality that the strong wind is one of the main protagonists of the day, with gusts of more than 40 kilometers per hour at Malaga airport, But what went most viral was a waterspout that occurred around 11:20 a.m. on the coast of Marbella.

A waterspout is a tornado-like weather phenomenon that forms over water. Also known as a “water mantle”, it occurs when a rotating column of air extends from a cumuliform cloud to the surface of the sea, lake or other large body of water. Waterspouts typically occur in coastal areas and are more common in warm waters.where the temperature contrast between the water surface and the air favors its formation.

Unlike land tornadoes, waterspouts are generally of lower intensity and shorter duration, although they can still be dangerous to small boats or water activities nearby. They can reach wind speeds of up to 100 km/h and, although they do not carry solid debris, They raise a large amount of water in the form of spray and foam, creating a very striking visual effect. These phenomena tend to dissipate upon landing or when weather conditions, such as temperature and wind, change.

It is not the first to be seen in the province of Malaga. They are common in this type of storm. Fortunately, as it remained at sea and did not make landfall, it caused no damage.
