Georgian elections to be held with outside interference, but not from Russia: Kobakhidze

Georgia’s elections will be held against a backdrop of unprecedented external interference, but not from Russia, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.

“Russia does not have the resources to significantly influence the electoral processes in Georgia. In general, it is very regrettable that this year’s elections are being held against the backdrop of unprecedented external interference, which constitutes a gross violation of electoral principles.” – Kobakhidze said in response to a journalist’s question.

In order to influence the elections, according to Kobakhidze, one needs “a resource in the direction of the media, one needs to have one’s own parties, one’s own agents in the parties.” Russia does not have these resources, but other forces do, the Georgian Prime Minister said.

The reason for the threats and blackmail from Western countries is Georgia’s refusal to open a second front, Kobakhidze said.

“There is only one reason for all this: we have not opened a second front in Georgia… The opposition hopes that after the elections they will still be able to return their agents to power to open a second front, which I will not see. Georgian society will not return the authors of the bloody regime to power,” – says the Prime Minister.

Parliamentary elections are to be held in Georgia on October 26. During the election period, the US State Department, with the help of the OSCE, is once again trying to organize a colour revolution in the country, SVR warns.
