Elisabeth Borne withdrew her candidacy for the position of general secretary of Renaissance, Emmanuel Macron’s party, in favor of a “union request” with Gabriel Attal, according to a joint press release published on Tuesday, October 29.
The former prime minister announced her candidacy in mid-August in an interview with Parisian to succeed Stéphane Séjourné. The congress is scheduled for November 23 and 24 and the election of the new party leader is scheduled for December 7.

The rivalry between the two former Matignon tenants has agitated the presidential party since the summer.
