Felipe González meets Edmundo and distances himself from the PSOE by calling him “president”

Former Prime Minister Felipe González met on Friday with Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González, who is in Spain with the intention of requesting political asylum.

The meeting takes place after the Congress of Deputies urged the government to recognize González Urrutia as president of Venezuela, despite the vote against the PSOE, which calls for a common position within the European Union and to have “a margin of mediation” with the government of Venezuela. Nicolas Maduro. This was indicated by the president of the government, Pedro Sánchez, who also received González Urrutia in La Moncloa this Thursday.

At the meeting in Madrid, both recalled that they had met in Geneva in 1975, when Felipe González was in hiding, as indicated by the entourage of the historic socialist leader.

Edmundo González confirmed his intention to “continue fighting to achieve a transition to democracy in Venezuela.” Meanwhile, María Corina Machado, another opponent, remains in Venezuela “so that together they can affirm the popular sovereignty expressed in the elections of July 28.”
