The mayor of Valladolid, the “popular” Jesús Julio Carnero, insisted this Wednesday that the former councilor of the PP, Javier León de la Riva, “deserves” to be recognized with a place that will bear his name in the City of Communication after “20 years” of work “in favor of this city”. He assured that he believed “in the same way” that the former socialist mayor Tomás Rodríguez Bolaños deserved to have a park named after him and that his predecessor Óscar Puente will also receive a tribute at this time.
This is how he spoke about his predecessors in power in statements to the media, in which he responded to criticism regarding the recognition of León de la Riva. Those who oppose it have called a rally to take place next Sunday and which more than thirty groups have joined.
Carnero affirmed that León de la Riva “for 20 years he has been working in favor of the city, fighting for the interests of his neighbors, sometimes with more success, other times with less success.”
Furthermore, he added that this recognition comes at the right time “in the same way that Mayor Tomás Rodríguez Bolaños deserves a park” and that, like Carnero’s predecessor in power, the current socialist Minister of Transport and Mobility , Óscar Puente, “it will also deserve to be named in a square, a street or an element that recalls his stay in the city of Valladolid, with his successes and what did not have much success,” he compared.
It should be remembered that the City Council approved in an extraordinary plenary session after the death of Tomás Rodríguez Bolaños, in November 2018, to give his name to the park located next to the Plaza de Juan de Austria.
