Next month it will be thirteen years since little Ruth and Jose were murdered by their father. Jose Breton. It was undoubtedly an event that shocked not only the people of Cordoba at the time, but also all the actors on the national scene who had echoed the fatal fate of these children.
Ruth and José’s mother, Ruth Ortiz, shared with RTVE a open letter to give visibility to this type of violence which continues to grow more and more throughout the country.
“My story is the story of a abused woman from the beginning of a relationship. Abuse that I only became fully aware of after my children were murdered. “I don’t know what would be the best path and steps to follow for an abused woman with children, from the moment she decides to separate from her abuser, what is certain is that it is a moment very very dangerous “for her and her children, and a protocol should be established to provide protection and prevent so many murders of women, boys and girls.”
Ruth says that indirect violence is a very important factor, which is none other than sexist culture, since these types of people are influenced by many factors that surround their daily lives.
“Fathers and mothers should educate their sons and daughters about equality, we are equal in rights and obligations. “I only believe in education as a method and means to eradicate machismo, gender violence and, within it, indirect violence.”
Finally, Ortiz explains that there is two types of aggressors regarding this type of violence. First, there is the one who suddenly does all the damage possible and ends the children’s lives in one fell swoop.
