Will medicines be delivered free of charge with health insurance? – OFFICIAL RELEASE

Some time ago, a proposal was put forward in Azerbaijan to cover some prescription drugs at the expense of insurance.

I wonder when medicines will be provided free of charge through compulsory health insurance.

In response to Lent.az’s query, the Compulsory Medical Insurance Agency said that the draft law amending the law “On medical insurance” for the purchase of insurance coverage for prescription drugs in outpatient conditions has been approved by the State Agency for Compulsory Medical Insurance and submitted to the relevant state institution in coordination with the institutions. Following the adoption of the law, it is planned to prepare related regulations and improve the existing ones.

Once the existing legislation is adapted to the new financing mechanisms for the supply of pharmaceutical products, the process of gradual coverage of medicines used on an outpatient basis at the expense of compulsory medical insurance will begin. Preparations are underway for the regulation of technical issues for the implementation of the process in comprehensive and modern standards.

Currently, compulsory health insurance covers emergency and urgent medical services, hospital medical care and a number of medical services provided to citizens in medical institutions on an outpatient basis, anesthesia services, the supply of medicines and medical expenses.
