What’s happening with the price of oil? Current situation and when its decline is expected

Last year, olive oil was one of the products that became more expensive due to poor harvests. However, the latter was good and the purchase price for the farmer was reduced. However, this was not the case in supermarkets.

The purchase price for the farmer has fallen by almost 12% compared to just a year ago. Today, the farmer is paid seven euros and 21 cents for each kilo. But this has not been reflected in supermarket prices despite the good harvest.

At the moment, we pay about eight euros and 90 cents for each litre of white label olive oil. Even though this is almost one euro less than what we paid at the beginning of the year, it is still more expensive than last September.

And now there is no VAT, as it was then. What happens then? Well, farmers explain that the price on the ground usually takes about two months to be transferred to the supermarket. Therefore, until November, we will still not notice a significant drop in its price, although farmers are asking for this to be reflected in the final price as soon as possible.
