Civil Guard seizes two owls in Teguise and denounces their owner for having them in his room

The Civil Guard seized Costa Teguise of two eagle owls and denounced their owner, 43, who was taking them for walks around Lanzarote, where tourists and residents took photos with them, for having put them up in his bedroom and not register them in the Zoological Nuclei Registry.

The owner of these birds, one of which was acquired after the entry into force of the law prohibiting its acquisition, did not have adequate facilities to ensure the well-being of these animals, the armed institute stressed in a statement on Saturday.

The seizure of these birds, covered by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, an international intergovernmental agreement that came into force in 1975, took place on August 27 on the promenade of Las Cucharas beach, in the municipality of Teguise in Lanzarote, and veterinarians from the municipality of Haría intervened, the note says.

The animals were deposited at the “Rancho Texas”, at the disposal of the competent authority for the resolution of the administrative file and the complaint was sent to the Livestock Department of the Government of the Canary Islands and to the town halls of Teguise and Haría.
