The United States Department of State confirmed to Efe this Saturday the arrest of Three Americans charged with terrorism in Venezuela and denied the existence of a plot against the president of the South American country, Nicolas Maduro.
“We can confirm the arrest of a member of the US military and we are aware of unconfirmed reports that two other citizens Americans [identificados como Estrella David y Aaron Barren Logan] detained in Venezuela,” a State Department spokesperson told Efe.
The United States further stated that it was “categorically false” any claim that the United States is involved in a plot to overthrow Maduro.
“The United States continues to support a democratic solution to the political crisis in Venezuela,” the spokesman concluded.
Venezuela’s Interior Minister, Diosdado Cabello, announced this Saturday the arrest of two Spanish citizens, three Americans and one Czech involved in an alleged operation aimed at committing “terrorist” acts, including the assassination of President Maduro.
According to the minister, in the operation More than 400 weapons “transported from the United States” seizedand some of those captured were seeking to bring “a group of mercenaries” to Venezuela with the aim of assassinating Maduro, as well as Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and other Chavismo leaders.
