Trump’s “anti-Semitic” appointment sparks a scandal in the US

Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States, nominated Matt Gaetz for the position of Attorney General, which has caused great controversy. Goetz became one of the most discussed and controversial candidates for his future cabinet.

This was reported by the Haaretz news portal.

The Florida congressman, who faces an ethics investigation by the US House of Representatives over allegations of sexual misconduct, has repeatedly found himself at the center of clashes with the American Jewish community. He often used controversial language, including anti-Semitic phrases, and voted against legislative initiatives aimed at combating anti-Semitism.

Gaetz recently expressed his opposition to the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, which aims to combat anti-Semitism on college campuses.

This law requires the Department of Education to consider the definitions of anti-Semitism proposed by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance when evaluating cases that may violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 if such actions have anti-Semitic motivations.

While he declined to support the bill, which has broad bipartisan support, Gaetz expressed concern that such measures could create confusion between criticism of Israel and anti-Semitism. At the same time, when explaining his position, he himself used statements with anti-Semitic overtones, referring to the idea that “the Jews are supposedly responsible for the death of Jesus.”

Anti-Defamation League Executive Director Jonathan Greenblatt criticized Trump’s decision to appoint Gaetz as US attorney general.

“Matt Gaetz has a long history of peddling anti-Semitism, from explaining his vote against the bipartisan Anti-Semitism Awareness Act by citing the centuries-old legend that Jews killed Jesus to defending the great replacement theory and hosting as a guest a Holocaust denier. about the State of the Union in the country,” he said.

Previously, Cursor wrote that Donald Trump made an important appointment by choosing Elise Stefanik, a congresswoman from New York and leader of the Republican conference in the House of Representatives, as the new US ambassador to the UN.
