The vessels of coastal cleaning The Government’s Department of the Sea and Water Cycle collected a total of 7,295.13 kilograms of waste in the Balearic Islands, with a daily average of 235.33 kilos.
In total, the ships of the beaches They collected about 4.4 tonnes of wastewith a daily average of 141.57 kilos, while the ships of the side They collected more than 2.9 tonswith a daily average of 93.76 kilos, as reported by the ministry in a press release.
Majorca is the island that dominated the collection with almost 3.1 tons of kilos, with a daily average of 99.79 kilos, followed by Minorca with approximately 2.2 tonnes, daily average of 70.40 kilos, Ibiza with 1.7 tonnes, daily average of 54.87 kilos, and Formentera with 318 kilos, daily average of 10.27 kilos.
He plastic was the predominant residue, because it represents the 44.13% of the total, followed by wood with 29.66% and vegetation with 12.33%.
On the other hand, during the month of August, various special collections were also carried out to deal with exceptional situations. In Mallorca, they collected remains of a burnt and sunken ship. In Menorca, a concentration of plastic was studied, an unknown metal artifact and a reed were collected. In Ibiza, pieces of fibers from sinkholes and several trunks were removed. In Formentera, remains of stranded shipsA log and fuel were scattered.
It is worth noting that during this month it was detected little presence of jellyfish in the bathing areas, without any Portuguese caravel units having been collected on the islands.
In this way, the Department of the Sea and Water Cycle responded to a total of eight alerts during this period, five of which were managed in collaboration with the 112 emergency service and Maritime Rescue, and three were reported by institutions and individuals.
The Balearic coast cleaning campaign will continue until September 30, with the aim of keeping the waters free of waste.
