Researchers led by the University of Rovir E Virgili in Spain conducted an experiment that included 80 children aged 5 to 16 years, while half of them took the “probiotics” additive (useful bacteria found in yogurt and some fermented products) daily for 12 weeks, while the other half received fake treatment (drug without a factory effect). The results showed a noticeable improvement in the behavior of impulse and hyperactivity in children who took this supplement, especially younger children aged 5 to 9 years, especially with autism.
The user of “probiotics” contains two types of beneficial bacteria (lavochopsilus perfis), which enhance the production of important nervous media: “dopamine” and “gamma -aminopurrosa” (GABA), which helps to reassure movement, organize attention and reduce the voltage.
Parents of the children noted that the symptoms of hyperactivity in their children improved compared to the “high” “average”, since autistic children felt greater physical comfort, including low pain in the body and improved functions of the digestive system, as well as increased energy.
Nevertheless, the study did not record a clear improvement in the field of sleep, thinking or social communication skills, and the effect of the food supplement was not equal to all children.
Researchers emphasized that the study period was short, and that the participants were relatively stable social and economic areas, which could affect the generalization of the results.
This study indicates the possibility of children with autism and ADHD from “probiotics” additives as an auxiliary treatment, but it shows the need for additional studies to understand the mechanisms of “probiotics” and evaluate its prolonged effect.
