JAKARTA – The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) warns that extreme weather can still occur in most Indonesian territories, although the dry season has begun.
Until the end of June 2025, only about 30 percent of the seasonal zone in Indonesia really entered the dry season. And vice versa, most areas, such as Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua, are still highly risk of experiencing a moderate rain, accompanied by lightning and strong winds next week.
The head of BMKG, the Karnavati, emphasized that the complex dynamics of the atmosphere still caused the formation of convective clouds that cause heavy rain. Phenomena such as equatorial waves of Rossby and Kelvin, convergence zones and wind, as well as the potential of cyclone cycles around the Indian and Pacific Ocean, continue to encourage the formation of rain clouds on a wide scale.
“Despite the fact that we entered the middle of the dry season, various global and regional atmosphere factors are still supported by heavy rain and extreme weather in many regions,” the official statement said in his official statement in his official statement (07/13/2025).
The movements said that in recent days a significant rain intensity was registered in a number of regions. On July 9, in Nabir and Western Kalimantan, daily rain of more than 50 mm occurred, while on July 8 in the western papua, North Sumatra, Western Sumatra, Maluku and Papua, very heavy rain was registered. This condition led to hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, landslides, puddles, fallen trees, and damage to infrastructure.
