Will monkeypox vaccination be mandatory in Azerbaijan?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), countries around the world have allocated more than 3.6 million doses of vaccine to combat monkeypox (mpox).

This issue has sparked a public debate, raising concerns that a pandemic could be declared again and mandatory vaccinations implemented.

Can there be compulsory vaccination against monkeypox in Azerbaijan?

According to Fuzuli Huseynov, a herbalist who spoke to Globalinfo.az about the issue, the issue depends on the course of the disease.

He said that if the rate of spread of the virus accelerates, vaccination will be mandatory:

“If the rate of spread of monkeypox is slow, vaccination can be voluntary, but if it is fast, it is possible to move to compulsory vaccination. Frankly, this virus is a disease that has never existed. Similar diseases will increase in the future because parallel laboratories are also being developed. And behind them, in my opinion, everything is under control. In that case, vaccination will be compulsory.”

The doctor explained the ways to prevent this disease:

“These are all viral infections. Most of these types of viruses are usually transmitted through the air. But monkeypox is said to be transmitted from person to person through contact. Contact infections do not have a very fast growth rate. But if the infection increases, our only recourse is to attack the immune system. The stronger our immune system, the more we can fight off the infection and there will be no problem.”
