The Bay of Palma was the scene of the tribute to The Balearic Islandsthe boat that entered history this Sunday by celebrating its 100 years of life. A total of 51 boatLatin sailing ships participated in the commemoration of its centenary, after having made two tours around this emblematic ship of Majorca classified as a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC).
This tribute was developed specifically for the height of the cathedral of Palma, where a large naval parade of all the participants in the Latin Sailing Day took place. An event that is part of the Consell’s program of activities for the Mallorca Day and is organized by the Cala Gamba Nautical Club.
First of all, the Race Committee carried out a honking hornas a preliminary step to start of greeting in the Balearic Islands. The 51 boats surrounded the century-old ship, leaving it on the port side.

Bestard thanked the fifty boats for their participation and stressed that with this great tribute that La Balear has received, it is about “highlighting the importance Majorcan maritime tradition and cultural and maritime heritage.
To celebrate this special tribute, Palma Cathedral opened its terrace, from where fifty citizens and residents of the Balearic capital were able to observe the maritime event. Finally, the Cala Gamba Yacht Club delivered a commemorative plaque of the centenary of the Balearic Islands in Bestard. It is worth remembering that the boat, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024, was built in Palma by the Ballester Shipyards in 1924 engage in trawling.

In addition to the tribute to the Balearic Islands, the Consell de Mallorca has collaborated with the Cala Gamba Yacht Club to prepare other events for the centenary.
