UCO is the best Spanish university in agronomy and veterinary medicine

The new edition of the Shanghai Ranking by Subject places for the first time the University of Cordoba (UCO) among the 50 best in the world in two scientific branches. HAS Veterinary scienceswhich has maintained this exceptional position for four years, joins Agricultural Scienceswhich significantly improves its position in this prestigious ranking.

The UCO is the only Andalusian positioned within range of 50 best in the world in two categories and one of the three that do it throughout the country, with the Pompeu Fabra and the Autonomous Universities of Barcelona. In this edition there are eight categories in which the University of Córdoba occupies significant positions in the World Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), compared to six last year.

Veterinary Sciences, which place UCO as the first in the country and maintain it among the fifty best in the world, this year the discipline of Agronomy is added, in which UCO improves 37 positions compared to 2023, going from position 84 in the year preceding the 47th of this edition. This also makes it the best located in Spain.

Likewise, it improves positions in Food science and technology and pharmaceutical sciences. Environmental Sciences and Engineering and Atmospheric Sciences again enter this classification, in which the University of Córdoba was already present several years ago.

In this latest version of the prestigious international university ranking, the presence of the discipline for the first time for UCO stands out. Educationwhich demonstrates “the generalist character of a public university with cutting-edge research present in the appropriate scenarios to evaluate its role among the 500 best universities in the world”, were heard by the educational establishment.

The 2024 ranking presents methodological changes concerning the indicators and their calculation, increasing from 5 to 9 the elements analyzed for its development. Thus, the 55 disciplines studied increase their analysis criteria by taking into account both indicators of scientific impact and institutional prestige by having research staff holding academic scholarships, presence in institutions and positions of responsibility scientific in journals.
