The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, rids himself of responsibility for the management of DANA, the most catastrophic episode of the last century in the Valencian Community. Mazón defended himself by discrediting state agencies like Aemet and insisted on pointing the finger at the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation during his appearance this Friday, 17 days after the great floods, to explain its management of the pre-emergency , emergency and post-emergency.

He announced that the PP would create a “commission of inquiry to analyze with light and stenographers how many questions have been raised regarding the response to the worst tragedy in recent history.” The Valencian president said that “the protocols were not enough” and insisted that DANA “exceeded all forecasts”, without apologizing to management. However, he assures that “he will not evade any responsibility”.

Regarding the four blank hours that Mazón maintained during the DANA day, from his lunch with a journalist at 3:00 p.m. until his arrival in Cecopi at 7:30 p.m., the popular leader recognized that he had kept his agenda “fully aware of the situation “. » as the relevant emergency minister had visited the affected areas and warnings had been issued. He went to Cecopi when they warned him about the possible failure of the Forata dam. “The bad weather generated a high density of traffic,” he explained to justify his delay and his four-hour suspension. The president neglected to say that he was seeking to maneuver for control of Valencian public television, as his team admitted, after several changes of version.

Focus on the Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar

“The measuring systems were not only overwhelmed by the water level but were washed away by the flood,” said the Valencian president, who assures that there was “a single sensor” in the entire ravine of Poyo, the boulevard that overflowed. .

The leader has been focusing for weeks on the Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar and claims that the Generalitat was not informed of the seriousness of the situation. Mazón claims that the Riba-Roja rain gauge was washed away by the flooding of the Poyo ravine (Chiva ravine). This counter went out of service at 6:55 p.m., according to the Hydrographic Confederation. At that time, Cecopi had been meeting for two hours to analyze the emergency and the state agency had repeatedly warned of rains at the head of the Chiva ravine and the increase in flow, as demonstrated by the emails sent . The President was not yet in this body because he was eating. The emergency agency of the Generalitat Valenciana itself issued an alert at midday due to the increase in the canal on this Poyo boulevard.

Discredit Aemet

The Valencian president defended himself by discrediting state agencies. “An episode of torrential rain, when everything was predicted a few days before, is not the same thing as the monstrous ravine caused by an atmospheric phenomenon which exceeded Aemet’s worst forecasts. Torrential rains; ravine,” he explained. The president insists that “we cannot forget that the red alert was triggered due to the forecast of torrential rains, as has happened on 36 other occasions in the last 10 years, without causing any sudden floods like the one that occurred in the upper reaches of the Poyo ravine, many of these alerts did not even cause significant flooding,” says the popular baron.

He insists Aemet left the alert until 6 p.m. and provided incorrect information. The state agency later updated the advisory.
