The best honey this weekend at the Provincial Deputation of Cordoba

The Palacio de la Merced once again becomes, from today until next Sunday, a meeting point of the Andalusian beekeeping sector, thanks to the celebration of Expomiel, a beekeeping fair that celebrates its twenty-seventh edition with the presence of a total of 15 exhibitors and with a program of activities highlighting technical conferences and honey competitions.

The first vice-president and delegate for infrastructure, sustainability and agriculture of the Provincial Council of CórdobaAndrés Lorite, accompanied by Antonio Vázquez, regional director of the beekeeping sector of COAG-Andalusia, and Rafael Moreno, director of UCO Chair of Mediterranean Gastronomywas responsible for inaugurating “an exhibition which constitutes a fully consolidated and highly anticipated event for this sector which is so important for the economy of the province”.

Lorite put on the table data on this influence, such as the number of beekeeping operations in the province, with a total of 74 municipalities, out of the 77, that have activity. The areas of the Hornachuelos and Cardeña-Montoro Natural Parks are the most representative with 123 farms, 32,882 hives and 61 percent of the Cordoba bee census.

Expomiel 2024 also returns with the Honey Quality Competition, during which four prizes will be awarded, which will reward the best light monofloral, dark monofloral, multifloral and organic honeys. A total of 58 samples were presented from Córdoba, Seville, Malaga, Cádiz, Huelva, Granada and Almería. There has been a change in the physical location of this exhibition, which this year will have the Patio Blanco as the stage, but the collaboration with the Andalusian Beekeeping Center and COAG-Andalusia.

This Saturday, the beekeeping technical daysa meeting which will begin with the presentation of the XII ‘Tintxu Ruiz’ Prize, to continue with the round table ‘Vespa orientalis. Know it well to be able to fight it”, hosted by Francisco Puerta and with the participation of Carlos del Pico, scientific broadcaster; Ángel Díaz, beekeeper and representative of the General Directorate of Forestry Policy and Biodiversity of the Junta de Andalucía.

During the afternoon, it will be the turn of the table entitled “Honey Market”. Current state and influence of European regulations”, hosted by Antonio Vázquez, and with the intervention of Noa Simón, scientific director, and Carlos Zafra, regional director of beekeeping of COAG-Murcia. The day will end with the presentation of the Expomiel 2024 honey quality awards.
