Tobacco giant Philip Morris closes factories in Germany

Tobacco giant Philip Morris announced the closure of its plants in Berlin and Dresden. This was reported by the telegram channel “Bild in Russian”* with reference to the company’s statement.

According to Philip Morris, production at the Berlin tobacco processing plant will cease in the first half of next year, and in Dresden, where rolling tobacco has been produced since 2019, in mid-2025.

It should be noted that the store is closed due to the drop in demand for cigarettes in Europe in recent years. This trend is expected to continue in the future.

“In total 372 employees will be laid off, of which around 270 work at the Dresden plant. “Philip Morris promised to provide ‘fair solutions’ for all workers subject to redundancy.” – writes TK.

According to analysts, Philip Morris’s decision reflects changes in the tobacco industry, where demand for traditional cigarettes is declining and companies are adapting to new market conditions.
