Compromís demands the resignation of Mazón for his management of DANA in Valencia: “How many deaths could have been avoided?”

The spokesperson for Compromís to the Valencian Courts, Joan Baldovidemanded the resignation of the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazonfor his “disastrous”, “incompetent” and “negligent” management of the DANA of Valencia, so that he does not continue to occupy this position in an “obscene” manner after the “apologies and lies that he has repeated without dignity since the first day.”

“How could I eat in peace when Utiel and Chiva were already flooded, when in La Ribera there were roads cut and when rescue services from the firefighters had already taken place?”, he asked. “Why did your government take so long to sound the alarm?”he insisted, while the mayors had been taking measures for hours.

“Do not continue to blur the truth about your irresponsibility out of respect for the 216 victims.” “How many of these deaths were avoidable,” Baldoví asked Mazón this Friday, during the monographic parliamentary session on flood management on October 29 in Valencia, after a first two and a half hour speech by the head of the Regional Executive .

An intervention which, according to Baldoví, “It was not his advisors who wrote to him, but his lawyers wrote to him in his defense”. The Compromís Ombudsman also criticized the fact that Mazón did not declare the situation a catastrophic emergency and did not assume sole command after the tragedy. In addition, he criticized him for not using all the resources available to him. “Can you sleep at night?” he insisted.

“I don’t care who he ate with, but he wasn’t fulfilling his responsibilities. “I was out of place,” he reiterated. “Was it more important to fill the hotels than to save lives?” he stressed about the tourist forecasts for the November long weekend.

In his response, the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, denied having refused help from the Castellón firefighters. They were not activated because “they were also there on alert”. “Accuse me of whatever you want,” he said, but not of having “economic motivations to delay an alert.” Mazón asked Baldoví to pledge Compromís support to the Spanish government for help to arrive for recovery.
