The cloister of the cathedral will host a meal this Sunday for around 175 guests

Pope Francis has convened this Sunday, November 17, the 8th World Day of the Poor, with the motto “The prayer of the poor rises to God” (cf. Si 21.5), and in which many initiatives are carried out, “the fruit of a creative charity which encourages and arouses the commitment of faith”, they emphasize from the Archdiocese of Toledo, from where it is underlined that “The World Day of the Poor invites us to look towards the poor, to listen to their voice and to ensure that they do not miss our closeness.

In the case of Toledo, for the fourth consecutive year The Primatial Cathedral will host the central activities of the VIII World Day of the Poor in the city. Also in some parishes of the archdiocese, different acts of prayer and celebration will be organized.

In the Cathedral of Toledo, the events will be presided over by the Archbishop of Toledo, Francisco Cerro Chaves, and coordinated by the Vicariate of Charity and Social Action of the Archbishopric of Toledo and the Chapter of the Primatial Cathedral. Thus, at noon, the Archbishop will preside over the Mass in which the participants of the programs of the Caritas Diocesana of Toledo and the representatives of the delegations that make up the Vicariate of Charity and Social Action (Manos Unidas, Delegation of Pastoral Health , Prison Pastoral Care, Migration and Human Mobility, Permanent Deacons and Cáritas). Volunteers from brotherhoods and brotherhoods such as Santa Caridad, Cristo Redentor and El Descendimiento will also participate in the Eucharist.

Food in the cloister

Once the mass is over, all participants will take a guided tour of “The image of the Virgin Mary in the primad cathedrala”, which will be explained in different groups of official guides. At the end, in the cloister of the cathedral, there will be a meal shared between all participants, which will be served by volunteers from the Espace Charité delegations, and which will be coordinated by the Caritas Diocesana of Toledo.

Once again, in this edition, from the Santa Casilda Residence, the cooks will prepare a paella for around 150 people, and there will be donations from companies such as “Pastelería Lara”, which will offer the dessert, and other companies collaborators of the Caritas Diocesana of Toledo.
