Ayuso to extend home cancer treatments to all Madrid hospitals

Madrid will expand the home cancer treatment program to all public hospitals in the region. “We will facilitate care at home for the patient who requests it,” explained the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, during her speech at the ABC Forum, held this morning with the CEU as an institutional collaborator and sponsored by Valdecarros Madrid.

The program, which was already operating in several hospitals on a pilot basis, will now be expanded and tries to make “life a little easier and more bearable,” said Díaz Ayuso, for patients who need it, as it is a voluntary program.

The nursing staff will be responsible for carrying out home visits, accompanied if necessary by a doctor. They will have all the necessary equipment, even to deal with any eventuality arising from the treatment. And this will be coordinated with the Pharmacy Service.

This program also includes the monitoring of laboratory tests, in order to avoid patients unnecessary trips that, given the situation of these patients, can be very uncomfortable and complicated. A direct telephone will also allow you to make video calls with the doctor to ask possible questions.

The president also highlighted the Functional Rehabilitation Center for ALS Patients, which opened its doors at the Zendal Hospital and through which 78 patients have already passed, she explained, and it is “the prelude to the first residence for ALS patients” in the world, which will be operational in 2026 at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital.

In his speech, Díaz Ayuso defended one of the flagship measures of the 1995s that he announced during the debate on the state of the region: bringing 1st and 2nd ESO students to primary schools. He does this, he explained, so that “pre-adolescents continue in their regular school, so that their personality and learning capacity are strengthened” but above all so that “they are not in contact with the world of adolescents before their time.”

In this way, he added, parents will be able to rest more easily, and it will also be possible to avoid the fact that, due to the drop in the birth rate, primary schools will be forced to close due to a lack of students, especially in the less populated municipalities.

Among all the policies implemented by your government, social management stands out the most: “In the Community of Madrid, we provide social assistance to more than a million people every day. With special attention to the elderly, in a region “with the highest life expectancy in the entire European Union” and where 1.7 million people over 65 already live.

In terms of taxation, the policy of reductions applied in recent decades will be maintained. The president, faced with threats from the central government in this regard, warning against tax harmonisations that would impact the Madrid tax system, has asked for “respect for the will of the people of Madrid, expressed freely and forcefully in the elections”.
