Social Security gained 9,348 foreign members during the month of August in the Balearic Islands, 6.41% more than in the same period of the previous year, according to data published this Monday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. Specifically, in the Balearic Islands there were 155,284 foreign contributors in August, 187 fewer than those registered the previous month. Among them, there are 86,199 men and 69,085 women.

Another 28,178 are self-employed workers and 540 are registered in the maritime regime. As for nationalities, the Islands have 64,587 contributors from European Union countries and 90,697 from non-EU countries.

Across the country, Social Security lost an average of 22,020 foreign affiliates in August, 0.7% less than in the previous month, so the eighth month of the year closed with 2,870,742 foreign affiliates, the highest figure in the series for the month of August.

Last year, the average number of foreign members increased by 194,214 people (+7.3%).

Excluding seasonality and the calendar effect, the affiliation of foreigners to Social Security increased in August by 43,441 contributors, to reach a total of 2,849,998 employees, thus maintaining historical peaks.

Since December 2019, before the impact of the pandemic, the number of foreign contributors has increased by 687,599 employees, or 31.8% more.
