To develop energy efficiency and sustainability in Azerbaijan, the SOCAR-Uniper joint venture, created in 2016 by the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the German company Uniper, has made significant achievements in the past.
Oku.Az reports that the joint venture created in order to cooperate in the field of modernization of the steam generator complex at the SOCAR ethylene-polyethylene plant in Sumgayit achieves significant natural gas savings and emissions reduction through the use of energy solutions advanced from the company “Uniper”.
Thus, as a result of the measures implemented, the energy production capacity of the Steam Generator Complex was increased from 8-10 MW to 65 MW, annual savings of 3.1 million cubic meters of natural gas, annual reduction of 6,600 tons of carbon (CO2) and 7.8 tons of NOx emissions, the reduction of 160,000 tons of steam emitted into the atmosphere each year was ensured. In addition, the steam boiler capacity has increased to 450 tons/hour, raising the design capacity to 93% and achieving an overall energy efficiency of 68%.
This cooperation, which is one of the important steps taken towards the modernization of Azerbaijan’s energy infrastructure, reflects the commitment of both companies to environmental responsibility and resource optimization.
